LCSD #1 Strategic Plan for Sustainable, Data-Driven Professional Development
In August 2008, Lindamood-Bell partnered with Laramie County School District #1 to begin the third year of their ongoing collaboration. Teacher and paraprofessionals continue to receive ongoing professional development at seven schools in the district. This comprehensive model includes on-site coaching and support for teachers and principals, professional development in diagnostic assessments, small group instruction for struggling readers, classroom implementation, and certification for key district personnel. |

In LCSD #1, students in Special Education are benefiting significantly from Lindamood-Bell® instruction. With a focused effort on early diagnosis, instruction provided preventively in primary elementary classrooms, and a sufficient amount of intensive intervention, it is a main goal of the district to significantly decrease the percentage of students placed in Special Education.

In classrooms, the Seeing Stars® and Visualizing and Verbalizing® programs are addressing decoding fluency and comprehension skills, and fewer students are being referred to special education. Principal Brenda Creel observed that since all kindergarten students at Bain Elementary received Lindamood-Bell® instruction in the classroom last year, none were referred to small-group instruction for reading intervention as first graders. |
